TIME TO WALK AWAY

There has been a surge in the cases  of domestic violence in the country and the world at large.

The term "domestic violence" can be defined as any kind of violence perpetuated in the home.  It could range from physical, economical, emotional, sexual, etc.

The home ought to be a place of refuge, a comfort zone, but when it turns out to become a place of terror and intimidation, it ceases to be a home.

We are all born with the natural instinct of protecting our selves in the threat or likely threat of harm or danger. It is normal for one to run away from danger, that's why it becomes a thing to worry about when a person decides to stay in the same place where he/she is constantly abused.

One of the reasons people continue to stay in a home where they are abused is our belief that it will get better. This makes people to stay in a place of abuse even when their hearts tells them it won't get better.

Most times, the fear and stigma that is perceived to be attached to divorce makes the victim to stay on in the marriage, and our religious leaders are always ready to add that God hates divorce.

I quite agree that God in instituting marriage intended it to be till death, but I just don't think it's his intention for his children to be harmed by their spouses. My advice is that if one feels that divorce is against God's will, then such a person should at least go for judicial separation and pray the spouse changes.

In making a decision whether to stay or leave an abusive relationship, you  has to decide if given a befitting burial is what you want or staying alive to fulfill you dream.
